International Manner
Hello!
Have you ever interacted with international people? Today, I want to share with you about what I always feel about international people. Sometimes, I feel uncomfortable when someone who doesn’t have the same culture as me does something rule to my culture. For example, to pierce the chopstick, fork, and spoon to the food, it is very very rule in my culture when we eat. Just like this picture below.
This is because it is the symbol of food for death people in my culture, and as a manner, if you do like this in front of me, I feel being rude and very uncomfortable without reason because I was raised up never to do like this. But since I am in the States, I found some of my friends pierce fork to their food in front of me. Even though I feel bad, at least they are not from my culture, and they do not know what they are doing, so I can tell them not to do it in front of me or never eat with them again. This is an example of a specific culture, but there is an international rule that everyone obviously knows. And all people have to follow it. Just one point, let me tell you guys..
Please speak the common language !! (Speak English!!!)
As I am an international student, I meet many international people, or who speak multinational languages, and of course, I hangout with them. I love to meet new people, hangout and make new friends. I love to talk with different people and share variety of ideas. The cultures are different, family is different, and religion is different. But, be sure that when you hangout with international friends, you speak English.
For example, if you are hangout with 5 Japanese and 1 American, all these 5 Japanese should speak English all the time unless this American can understand Japanese very well. This is how to respect people. This is the international rule and manner. If you guy have ever experienced this situation with this one American, you understand how you feel isolated and sad that you do not understand what the others are talking, and when they laugh, only you do not understand what is going on. And the worst thing is, the rest of them won’t notice this person is suffering because of their language, and hurt her a lot. How many times I suffer from it. If you have even one person who do not speak your language, all of you should talk in English all the time. If you cannot speak English all the time, you should not invite someone who needs English in your group. Do not hangout with her if you cannot speak common language all the time. You do not have the right to hangout with her. This is how to respect people. You should know how feel isolated and bad when the others talk something you cannot understand in front of you.
Please please respect a person, and think about her feelings.
